“and He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, ‘Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.’ ” Luke 21:1-4 NKJV
What a powerful picture the Lord Jesus paints for us here of how we are to give. The poor widow, having but two mites, gave all that she had to the offering. She did not let her standing in life hold her back from giving what she truly felt was God’s back to him. What a challenge this is for us in our lives today. So often we can become overwhelmed by our mortgage, bills, investments, savings, RESP’s, RRSP’s and so much more that we can easily forget that whatever we have, be it two mites or two-thousand mites, it all belongs to God. May these verses be a reminder and a challenge for us to never lose site of whose resources we truly are managing.
During these uncertain times surrounding COVID-19 please do not forget that your local church and any ministries you normally support, like you, they will have a strain on their finances and require a continue stream of donations during these difficult times. Many ministries may even have more financial strain as they work to support and help people during these difficult times. Remember, as we just read in Luke 21, even if all we have to give may seem small or insignificant to us, the Lord will use it for His Glory.
