A new year and decade is upon us. This is always a good time to reflect on the past and look forward to the future. When it comes to giving to the Lord, how did you do?
For most of you reading this article you will have been blessed financially more than most people in the world. What did you do with your finances to give back to the One who blessed you with them?
You shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth. Deut 8:18
How are you using your treasure?
The Lord makes it clear that what we treasure is a statement about what is going on in our hearts (Matt 6:21). If our hearts are filled with the Lord Jesus and His work then what we do with our possessions will reflect that.
At Legacy Ministries we hear of opportunities all the time where believers can help the work of the Lord. Often these opportunities lack because God’s people haven’t given to support them.
This is not meant to be a guilt trip. The Lord never wants us to give grudgingly. He wants us to give out of an overflowing heart.
If there is among you a poor man of your brethren, within any of the gates in your land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your poor brother, but you shall open your hand wide to him and willingly lend him sufficient for his need, whatever he needs. Deut 15:7-8
Now is a good time to think about how you can give more to the Lord in 2020. Where are the areas in your budget that can be used for His work? The blessings will be immeasurable in return. There is great joy in giving. More joy than in receiving.
